I've been binge-watching "The Goldbergs" on Hulu lately. If you haven't seen it, its a comedy series about a dysfunctional family in 1980's Pennsylvania, inspired by the real life family of show creator and executive producer Adam Goldberg. Goldberg frequently videotaped his real life family and friends during the '80s. He incorporates some of that footage (dropouts, bad focus, color shifting and all) into the episodes (usually briefly at the end). The videos themselves are often the impetus
